SILCA Secret Chain Blend
Every chain at Velowax is treated in SILCA Secret Chain Blend — one consistent wax across all services. It is a laboratory-grade paraffin carrying a heavy dose of nano-scale tungsten di-sulfide, one of the slipperiest solid lubricants available.
The blend uses multiple particle sizes of tungsten. The finest particles work their way into the microscopic cracks and wear marks on the pins and rollers, while the larger ones carry the load between the moving surfaces. The result is a smoother surface that keeps working long after the wax itself has been ridden in.
In practice that means a faster, quieter chain that stays clean, holds its lubrication for longer between re-wax treatments, and slows down wear across the whole drivetrain.

Chain Lifespan vs. Wax Longevity
It helps to separate two different concepts: chain lifespan (the total service life of a chain before wear requires replacement) and wax longevity (how long a single wax application stays effective before the chain needs to be re-waxed). Properly maintained waxed chains can see up to 3× the chain lifespan compared with wet-lubed chains in similar conditions. How often you re-wax depends on your riding volume, conditions and contamination.

First Time Waxing?
If this is your first wax, I recommend starting with a brand new chain so the wax goes onto clean metal with no old lube trapped inside the links. It is only a recommendation, not a requirement. A used chain is perfectly fine as long as it can be fully stripped.
